OpenReader is built around a simple promise: your reading belongs on your device. The desktop app keeps documents and generated audio local, and this site collects as little as possible.
What we collect
If you choose to enter your email on this site, we store your email address and the date you subscribed. Nothing else. We do not collect your name, anything you read with the app, or analytics about how you use the product.
Why we collect it
Solely to email you when OpenReader has a major release or update. You can unsubscribe with one click from any email we send.
Who has access
Your email is stored with Resend, our email service provider. We do not share it with anyone else, and we do not use it for advertising or analytics.
No telemetry
OpenReader sends zero telemetry. No analytics, no crash reports, no phone-home. The desktop app reads your local files, talks to the bundled Python TTS backend over loopback, and downloads optional voice-model data from Hugging Face only when you choose to install a model. If you choose article import, RSS/OPDS feeds, remote catalogs, or the optional email signup, OpenReader connects only to the source or service you selected.
The desktop app
The OpenReader desktop app runs entirely on your device. The text you load and the audio it generates never leave your device. Optional neural voice models are downloaded directly from Hugging Face when you install them.
